What It Is
Create interactive stories using a variety of techniques. In Notebook, insert story elements such as characters, props, and backgrounds using premade elements in the Gallery and your own elements. Your own elements can be created by using the drawing tools and via a document camera and a printer/scanner to create real and digital puppets.
Why It’s Important
Telling, retelling, and modifying stories can be greatly enhanced and made with ease using digital elements. The teacher can create and find a vast array of resources to quickly integrate into a story. Student engagement and participation increase by incorporating their work directly into stories and allowing them to select and control story elements.
Application/ Extension/ Modification
- Use screen captures of pictures from the Internet to incorporate as background or props.
- Add digital photographs of student faces to create characters.
- Display the images from the book in full screen mode using a document camera as a backdrop for retelling the story.
- Have students draw their own characters or story elements using Notebook during center/ independent work time.
